Lesson Plan Overview #2

1. i would like to explore one of the battles of the civil war. i'm going to do a lesson on the battle of fredericksburg as it is a forerunner to the battle of gettysburg. i want my students to map out the causes and effects of the battle of fredricksburg because it will help them gain a better understanding of the outcome of the battle of gettysburg. this will be aimed at the 11th grade level for history.
2. i'm going to need to be aware of internet usage/availibility as well as the availibility of the software that will be used.
3. i will be using US History I: Standard 9, objective 2.
4. i'm planning on using the internet, as well as the Inspirations program to help develop the project.
5. the students will create a map/timeline of the different causes and effects of the battle of fredricksburg. they'll look at both the union and the confederacy, and they'll have to type up a description of the information that they have used.

Response to quote

the Nelson Mandela quote is actually one of my favorites. i have it in the quote calendar that i assembled. i think he truly hits the nail on the head. i think this quote also goes to prove that LDS people do not have a corner on the market; people from other faiths and completely different backgrounds often know exactly what is going on even if they can't see the whole picture. all of us should take this quote to heart and use it not only in our own lives, but we should also pass it on to others who may need its wisdom.

Ethics Reflections

What did you learn about ethics: i learned that you have to gain permission for everything you use with a copyright. copyrights permission lasts for 2 years. you can use something you've recorded off tv for 45 days after you've recorded it. 1 in 5 computers has a virus on it. find removal tools online at symantec.com. make sure you scan everything on the computer (including email). keep the OS updated and patch up weaknesses. the longer an update has been out the safer it is. it's super easy to get essays off line. technology cheating in HS and in college is huge. cheating isn't as obvious as it used to be. harder to detect. no cell phone/calculator policy so that it's easier to monitor

How will i use this in my classroom: i think i'll be a bit more concious about the technologies that my kids bring into the classroom. i'll also watch what goes on during testing situations. papers will be google-searched online to make sure that there isn't any cheating going on. i will also make sure that i don't violate the laws of copyright.
